URBAN REQUALIFICATION PROJECT, FROM THE CANOVA GIPSOTECA TO THE BELVEDERE – POSSAGNO (TV)
The project, commissioned by the City Council, shall define and create surplus value for some rural elements historically kept into the ancient urban fabric of the town. The revitalisation plan finds the incipit or the starting point in the stairway located in front of Canova Museum. This area visually represents the focus of that evocative axis that starts from Gipsoteca and leads to Canova Temple. Layout trace plays with diagonal segments to accompany gently the visitors towards the new municipal centre. That’s the opportunity to feel a meaning of walk and to find space for meetings, exhibitions and outdoor cultural events and small local markets. Architect modifies the natural slope of the land designing wisely architectural objects and signs, inserts walls containing a large area bordered by a green sinuous line which reminds the soft trend of the terrain contour lines and finally turns into an ellipse that magnifies the same circular space where we began. The green area, currently composed by an arched line of old evergreen pines juts out in the wide cross area where a new green sign, a row of curly maples, filling up with an intense autumn colouring, highlights changing season. Floorings find relationship with the local tradition ones and design soft signs, traces, arched lines stringed one into the others to hold and show the light slope of the land even to give shape to the clearing, to the small squares, to the paths. The project succeeds in proposing new signs with ancient materials related to the tradition and to the local stone quarries, as to emphasize an intimate belonging to the place.
